Every quarter we re-run the entire Instagram Hooks pack against live accounts in twelve niches. Q1 2026 was a bloodbath: platform pushes toward "original commentary" quietly killed a third of what worked in December.
Here's what the data said.

- Engagement-bait questions with no payoff
- Recycled trends more than 3 weeks old
The pattern in the pattern: hooks that front-load a specific, checkable claim survived. Hooks that withheld information as a trick decayed. The algorithm didn't get smarter — audiences did.
Anatomy of a survivor
Take the confession frame. It works because it inverts the authority gradient: instead of claiming to know more than the reader, you admit you knew less. That earns the next three seconds.
Notice what the slots force: a real belief, real evidence, a real update. You can't fill this template with fluff — the structure rejects it. That's what "hand-tested" means in practice.
What we retired
